Volunteer Mentor Program
Give a Little, Get a Lot!
The LifeTown Mentoring Program matches students with special needs from Columbus City middle and high schools with local business professionals to build 21st century job seeking skills.
The students and their mentors meet for two hours, once a month for eight months during the school year. Together, they explore job responsibilities, identify the student’s individual skills, prepare a resume and practice interviewing responses. The mentoring relationship in LifeTown’s safe, nurturing environment builds the students’ confidence and self-esteem. Mentors also bring real-world experience to their mentees.
The culmination to this program is the Sequent Job Fair at LifeTown. Students show off their new found confidence and practice their networking skills with more than 30 community employers including Abercrombie & Fitch, Alliance Data, Cardinal Health, Target, Walmart, and Wendy’s.
Mentors receive ongoing guidance and support from the LifeTown Mentor Coordinator. At the beginning of the school year, mentors attend a comprehensive orientation —receiving the curriculum and student materials. Before each visit with their mentees, mentors receive additional training on the day’s lesson.

I enjoy being a mentor because I get to see the kids I work with grow and learn all while having a fun life changing experience!
Maggie S.The mentor program has been an incredible experience. It has been a joy to get to know my mentee and watch him grow and develop.
