LifeTown Lessons

Please explore our lessons and worksheets below. All of the LifeTown lessons address and are aligned to state learning standards, and to national research-based life skills curricula including the Council for Exceptional Children's Life Centered Education (LCE) curriculum.

LESSON 1
Introduction to LifeTown

The Introduction to LifeTown lesson is an introductory lesson in which students are oriented to the LifeTown Village and are familiarized with the processes of decision making, financial literacy and time management.

LESSON 2
Excuse Me

The “Excuse Me” lesson focuses on communication skills, manners (etiquette), following directions, and self-advocacy skills. Students will follow apredetermined set of directions to visit venues in the LifeTown Village.

LESSON 3
Making & Changing Plans

The Making and Changing Plans lesson uses the participants’ previous experiences at LifeTown to address problems, situations, or confrontations while visiting several of the shops/offices in the village

LESSON 4
A Taste of Etiquette

The “A Taste of Etiquette” lesson allows students topractice their manners. During the lesson, they will wait in line for a table, order from a menu, and put their name on a reservation list.

LESSON 5
Money Matters

The goal of the “Money Matters” lesson is to further the students’ understanding of various denominations of money and to improve their budgeting skills.

LESSON 6
Keeping Track

The goal of the “Keeping Track” lesson is for students to monitor their spending to stay within their budget of $12.00 while visiting shops and offices in the LifeTown Village.

On Time

The “On Time” lesson focuses on communication, telling time, and time management skills.

LESSON 8
Special Friend

The “Special Friend” lesson is about relationships, especially with friends. Students will discuss what is a friend and identify friends that they have in the neighborhood, at school, or at church.

Job Exploration*

The “Job Exploration” lesson is the introductory lesson in a series of LifeTown lessons which address vocational/ employment skills. It is designed to help students learn about jobs they might want to hold both in the Village and later in life.

Job Application*

The “Resume Building / Application” lesson is the second lesson in a series of LifeTown lessons which address vocational / employment skills. It is designed to give students the opportunity to write a resume and complete a job application.

LESSON 12
On the Job*

The "On the Job" lesson is the final lesson of the Employment series. Students will complete training at one of their identified job placement choices. Please see Program Director for additional information.
